A black velvet infinity
Stretching to unknown expanses
Hung with dangling starlight-lamps
And torches of burning sun flames--
This is what we can know only
As the universe.
Maybe angels float there
Or perhaps demons lie in wait
And it is feasible there are others
Maybe like us, or maybe different
Living and loving and laughing
In the universe.
Perchance, one day,
We will find a way to measure things
Things like eternity and love
Things like happiness or misery
Things that are there and not,
Like the universe.
Black holes and worm holes,
Exploding stars and nothingness,
So many hidden things biding time
Undiscovered, and remaining so,
For ever and a day
In the universe.

How can I make the flow better?

This is beautiful, I love the questions you bring up and the meaning you give to each stanza.
Well penned.

I like the first line the best because it created a new thought about the appearance of the universe to me. The ending is nice because it does sum up why the universe is so mysterious. There is so much unknown.
I truly do like the way the poem seems to be written as if the writer is presenting his/her stream of consciousness, wondering about the universe as some of us do wonder.
I need to say that the poem doesn't flow too well though. The reader cannot get into a rhythm of comfortable meter.
Good luck in the contest. ~ Joyce

The last stanza really sums it all up, there's so much we don't know. so so much! it's so exciting and I have a feeling were going to be making huge leaps in the very near future with our understanding
