She struggles so hard to hide the bruises,
Made by he who all accuses,
She lives in fear for her own life,
Living in this endless strife,
He apologises, pleads and kisses,
No matter where he hits, he never misses,
Locked up in this wasted hell,
She becomes once more an empty shell,
She wants to leave but dares not try,
Alas, if she stays, soon she might die,
He must find another soul to abuse,
For he feels powerful when he leaves a bruise,
She tries to make up her panda eyes,
And when he leaves, she gives up and cries,
Her tear-stained face is all to rife,
How many more women must lose a life?
She packs her things and runs away,
And soon she finds a place to stay,
When he realises she’s not coming home,
We know that he’ll not leave it alone,
He will hunt her down and find her there,
And back she will be in this despair,
How many more women will there be
before the world will finally see?
Author notes
My name is Georgia Freya-Dawn Thornton
I think this piece is a mix of all three, encouraging abused women to run away and seek help, showing people what goes on and showing the women they can leave and they will be better for it if only they can break away, Domestic violence is wrong period.

Abuse is non-negotiable.
Domestic violence is only considered a misdemeanor. It does not become a felony until the abuser is charged with domestic violence three different times, and then it is up to the judge to issue the federal warrent. If it were two men, it would be considered assault, even assault with a deadly weapon if the man is trained in any special forces or weaponry. But these same men beat their wives and it is a 'domestic disturbance'. This is why it continues.
Women have been devalued and thought of as property for so long in this world run by men, that the good ole boys are the judges on the bench, looking the other way for crimes committed against us.
I have read that we demonize the abuser as they need help too, if so they need to be confined as the criminally insane, for some will kill the one that gets away if they ever find her again.
Your pen does touch on all three, which gives you extra brownie points with me. Thank you for entering this contest on an inhumane, unacceptable, non-negotiable behavior by men in our society across the globe that violently rape, beat and kill women on a daily basis. It is time for the pain and the violence to stop.
Blessed Be~

Exceptional
I really like the way this poem makes you feel the emotion in it. You really seem to be able to relate to what a woman might feel if she was abused. I really liked the depth to this it was very dark, but a poem of this nature would be. I really enjoyed reading it because it shows a certain depth of maturity that you have and considering your age you are a lot mature than most people. Yeah I reckon this poem is definitely a winner.

It such a sad thing, a horrible thing, and yet ... it's everywhere. Domestic Violence is very much so wrong ... there are a lot of us who have gone through it ... You have spoken such strong words in this piece ... and it makes me so sad to read it. But beautiful within it's meaning. You have done a very lovely job expressing this truest and harshest situation. Thank you for letting us read this. Very powerful!
