Purloined pirate grins
Tatooed skins, hints of fins
Makeshift tailgate sandbar isle,
Toenails painted green
mimic soft reflected metallic sheen
of fledgling feathers flight
Let me be a Parrothead tonight.
Early happy hours flirts
Grass skirts….Hawaiian shirts
Blossom and grow from pavilion lawn
Barbecue pit deluxe
Tiki torch in daylight, ice chest in flux
Laid back joyful afternoon
Gives rise to parrot-green moon.
Together gentle rocking
Arms locking, friends talking
Sharing memories of tears in drinking songs,
About the rise and swell
Waves of love and life that climbed and fell
And happy party sounds
Loves lost and pleasures found.
Sip on a rye…twist…of fate
Stand in line at the gate
No worries in Margaritaville tonight
The story lives long
every message inside every mellow song
Empty blender doesn’t signal the end
All we need is “just a few friends.”
Author notes
Went to my first Jimmy Buffet show tuesday. I want to go again and again and again.
Please tell me what you think

I have to say I did not understand any of this. I assume a Parrothead must be some kind of fancy dress costume worn in bars on your holidays.

Lol, it refers to ardent Jimmy Buffet fans, in case you were really asking. But yes, you are also 100%, if you look at every day as a holiday.

-
Unfortunately I have never heard of a Jimmy Buffet. It is similar to a Breakfast Buffet? Or a Self-Service Buffet?

Grabbed by the first verse (yes, you had me from "Hello"). Loved "No worries in Margaritaville tonight". This poem has a kind of slap-happy sernedipity, and I like it.

Ah. What a warm write!
It leaves me wanting to come along.
I cannot remember WHEN LAST I sang with "just a few friends" ... and suddenly I am teary.

Thank you for the lovely comment. Yes, seeing the throngs of people in the pavillion swaying and singing every word of every song, young and old and older, smiling, partying but no violence, and the spirit of the moment, gave me a lump in the throat then and now.
