powerful softness between
chick and prowling cat
Author notes
My pet hen, GoldieGold, never had little chicks, so I asked my friend Hannatjie for a little baby, which I called GoudjieGoud (the Afrikaans for GoldiGold GRIN). The photo was taken a few hours after GoldieGold got her new baby ... And when the cat approached, she immediately pushed the baby to the wall, and sat down, puffed up, between cat and chick. I ran to get my camera!

Adorable! I love the "powerful softness" - a great description of a protective mother hen. Lovely photo and haiku.

Awww this is so cute! A mother protects no matter who's child it is. Love, C

Congratulations on the HM. It is interesting how instinct will overcome logic in life threatening situations. Though Ms. Goldie does appear to be a bird who can defend herself when the need arises.

Sincerely,

I love the image and the conveyed message that even hens protect their young with forethought. The rhythm of this is very nice. Love it really. ~ Joyce
