late

I must have had 'touch me' written all over my face
when your lips found me out under neon lights
and you lifted me up
for the joy of being eighteen and alive
in our alcohol-soaked skins.

Its three in the morning-
time for my conscience to catch up with me.
Taxi-cab lights shine a path to the door,
we're still dancing in our heads
to cheap lights and fractious beats,
But my feet drag heavy with responsibility
and we avoid gazes in the hallway.

Later,
Sharing air in the spaces between,
That no-man's-land where our bodies don't quite touch.
Fumbled kisses-
and we're falling too hard to stop.

We were each other's late-night mistake.

You create the most wonderful imagery...so many components wrapped up into your words. You suck the reader instantaneously with the first line. This is great!
