You can't know the path
Unless you've walked it several times
Without a map and no guide.
Unless you've battled the elements
And wrestled the beasts,
You cannot preach about how to defeat them.
You can't close your eyes and see what's to come
Without having seen the same thing unfold
Within your own delicate hands.
Don't give advice on things you don't understand
Without having been in the inquirer's shoes,
Or it'll only be a matter of opinion.
Hypocrisy is one of our greatest enemies.
Learn not to judge those around you
Or we'll all be imprisoned.
You must see with unclouded vision
And the only way to achieve that
Is the use of compassion, honesty, and reliability.
Feel what the other feels,
Be truthful to them,
And, above all, listen to them.
In order to know the path,
You must walk it several times
Or you'll never know what it's like to need someone.
Author notes
I'm going to try my hand at philosophical poetry. And I'd really like to know the definition to transatlanticism!
