The Road of Ageless Sin

I've been on this road all my life.
I've always had many options to choose from,
But I unknowingly became a bearer of strife,
Carrying a heavier weight than some.

Now I see where this weight is taking me.
What was once peaceful has gone over the edge.
I had no idea all the hurt falling down on me
Would push me over this ledge.

And so the storm ahead brews,
Awaiting the arrival of another victim.
I no longer have the luxury to choose.
I only know how to follow the wind when it orders me to come.

A one-way path with marshes on each side
Tells me I must walk or sink in.
If only I had the courage to just let myself die
Instead of just letting this pain do me in.

Like thousands of old souls before me,
I must face this alone.
There's no other way but to allow the storm to take me
As I brave its fury on my own.

I promise myself to stand triumphant once more.
I won't let the path that ate others alive take me over.
Though my bones ache and my flesh is sore,
I'll make it through this, and laugh when it's over.

Stanza Four is a wonderful metaphor for life. Truly, it is either sink or swim. You are quite crafty with your pen, and it is nice to read a rhyme now and then, especially when it seems to be a lost art. I bid you much luck, and write on.
