There was a flower upon the earth
It was some thirty years ago
And for a while I got a glimpse
Of her petals she would show
The beauty of this special flower
Has never left my mind
All I do is stop and think
My thoughts run to her each time
Her colors etched into my mind
As though I’d seen her yesterday
Like I was going off to work
And saw her along the way
Yes the truth it must be known
That I went and broke her heart
But was mine that never healed
I deserved that from the start
It has been so many years
And I once did have a chance
But I dared not ever hope
She would grant me one last dance
Surely our time is growing short
And I’ve wasted most of mine
Never seeking out that flower
Not looking for that perfect vine
As I lie awake in bed
My mind runs back to see
The memory of that gorgeous flower
How now she would look to me
How I picture in my head
What that flower looks like today
Is still as stunning to me now
As she was on that first day
