yardstick

Ironically,
my nails are as long
as tiny, white flowers over there
and I noticed each a week ago,
on scales.

The aroma
spans from here to the mailbox,
casting an umbrella
where my blossoms freshen
until an eighth inch thickness
becomes a weed.

Mamma, you turn your eyes
to pluck a petal,
examining and pulling my hand
barefoot, roots walk the dirt,
spreading-

You can't take a deep enough breath
to appreciate all mother-daughter scents.

It's ok for me to enter with you saying "I prefer no cussing," but I just won't do courtesy and then run into someone who does use the option to curse.

    Daisy -

    this has wonderful imagery,
your poems have a very, very personal feel to them, the way they read & I love that about your work.

"You can't take a deep enough breath
    to appreciate all mother-daughter scents."

I picture your mother cutting your nails, maybe doing them for you in this poem...not sure, but it makes me think of when I notice my daughter's nails...lol...

this ends with a sigh, very sweet..and I love the title

    thanks for visiting my poetry

    Tara

This poem has afforded me a smile before I sign off and go to bed in California. Lovely lines, dear girl... your imagination spins out cleverness, always.

Thank you for letting me smile too from your comment

and btw that high heel emoticon seems new for another thought, i've only seen one other person use it. but, it reminds me of when i take long, skinny rocks and put them under my feet like trying to design those shoes. haha, i can't go so far as to actually walking in them 'cuz i don't even have straps! ...

until they make a wedge or something, i wonder what code that emoticon is, if you could tell me,

Hello, Daisy... There are many new emoticons and it is fun to practice using them. There are more than I can remember, but I have some favorites:

This is where you can go to find them: http://allpoetry.com/column/306041

        Have fun! Melodies
