Memoirs of a Mother

Angelic was your face, even upon birth --
Laying beside me under the most pristine of hospital fabrics.
Your fingers were so tiny, wrapped tightly 'round my own as I
Sang to you all the lullabies my mother had sung to me.
Sweet were the days we spent together in that picture perfect room,
Aching for the moment that we would be able to return home with your father.

Redemption was granted upon the fifth day of our isolated bonding,
And with tear filled eyes, your father drove us home;
Excited as I was, I still felt the full blow of responsibility on that ride.

As the weeks progressed, your face melted into the perfect unity of our own,
Reminding us of the vows for a better life we had spoken to one another.
August is rapidly approaching, and I can't help to think of what the future holds;
Guessing as to what kind of woman you will mature into.
One thing shall never change, despite what paths in life you may take --
No matter what, my beloved daughter, you shall always have a special place in my heart.

Author notes

Mm'kay. It's been... I think, a full year since I've written a poem. And, as some of you know, a whole HELL of a lot has happened in that year. I've gotten married, and given birth to a beautiful baby girl. Nothing in this world could make me happier.

In this year, I've been thinking a lot about writting a poem for her, or about her. I think this does both, even if it is a littly rusty. She's still a newborn, after all... I've a good fifteen years before she starts to critique poetry... unless she takes after me, that is.

Also, I would have included a picture of her so I can share my bundle of joy with the world... However, my account lacks that skills at the moment, and as all new parents know, money is never tighter than it is in the first year of your child's birth.

Enjoy.

What can i say that hasnt already been said? Congratulations on your new baby girl, and the best of luck for you in the future. As for the poetry; excellent! I am never dissapointed with poetry that has such strong emotion behind it. Well done on your life ^^

  • Congratulations on your new achievement. Motherhood is truly a blessing.I adopted my daughter when she was 2 mths old, so became an instant mother...She is now 31. 3 1/2 yrs later, I gave birth to my son, who is now 28.
Treasure the moments because they do fly and they become adults.
Now I enjoy my 2 granddaughters who have captured my heart and soul.
I have one that is 7 and another who is 1 and they are a joy to me.
Stay well and remember to take time for yourself, so you can be the best that you can be.
    Much love,
    Soulful Woman

    :-)

So very sweet. I'm not a mother, but I can imagine how I will feel for my own children.

  • good poem

you have portrayed the feelings of joy, insecurities and responsibility of being a mmother beautifully.

  • This is a wonderful poem. Motherly love is such a beautiful thing but it can be easily miswritten, you created such a picture of your bond with your child that I am almost jealous. Congradulations on all the lifechanging landmarks you have hit. Good luck in all that you do!

  • what a beautiful poem to write about your baby. I still recall the moments of my daughters birth with clarity and love often. I am certain your daughter will appreciate your writing when she is old enough to read it. Thank you for sharing this with us today. you have lifted my spirits...peace and light , kp

beautiful. she is lucky to have a mother like you. blessed is more like it. its ironic how it can be hardest to write about the things that mean the most to us. such as i can never seem to express my love for my brother in words. he is almost like my son and means the absolute world to me. no words seem to express him. you however have done an excellent job of expressing what your baby girl means to you.

    • Thank you for your kind words.

I've found that it is rather hard to describe the love you feel toward anyone, really. I've written a few for my husband, and a couple for my younger brother, along with this one for my daughter. They never really seem to be "exactly" what I want them to be, but I adore the end result all the same.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  • I liked it very much

You say "as the weeks progressed", our faces could be seem actually "melted into the perfect unity of our own" existence, and reminding us of the vows for a better life we had spoken to one another" remind us of the rate of their degrre from the point of being realized while "August is rapidly approaching!"
Applauding your lines, all the best!

      Thanks for your kind words.

As stated blow, I plan on keeping this and possibly getting it put into a plaque or something. My mother's pretty good at caligraphy, so maybe she'll hook me up.

Lol. I got pregnant a while ago. Like, back innnn... //Counts backwards.// September? I think, I dunno'. x x;; BUTYESSS... back then I wasn't really on AP a lot, so it's no worry that you didn't know.

And I will save it, of course! ♥ I want to, like, type it up all pretty, and frame it in her room with a picture of the three of us. ^ ^;; ...once she can hold her head up properly so we can take a decent photo at, like, Sears or whatever. XD

But, yes. Thank you for your comments, dearie. ♥

    holds

And with that neatly out of the way...

This is such a touching tribute to that beautiful girlie of yours, sweetie. I think this is very poetic, seeing as you have always had that way with words. You don't even need to try, hon'...what comes from your heart always makes my heart jump, break, and do backflips, because you have it in your blood, and in your soul.

I wish I hadn't missed you last night, I would love to talk to you again soon, dear. I really hope life has given you all you have ever wanted though. Take care, sweet woman, and I just KNOW that child will grow up to be beautiful like you.

Freaking... typos! ='( At least I have you to check it for me, that way it doesn't stay wrong forever.

And thank you for your sweet words, love. Even if I don't agree with everything you've said about my writting, I do adore the sentiments. It's nice to see that people still have faith in my writting abilities, even when I don't.

Andandand... yessss. You're so sweet when it comes to Alyssa, as well. ^ ^;; I know children aren't your "thing", but I think you make an acception for my daughter. ;]

Much love, darling. ♥ And thank you once more for your kind words.
