Why are you walking away?
I can see you
leaving,
leaving,
leaving.
Shadows of you here beside me
but I cannot make you stay.
Did you get what you came for?
Are you finished with me now?
Was I just a conquest, another
sacrifice to the here and now?
Left here with the shadows
of everything we shared.
me in my ignorance
believing that you cared.
Why are you walking away?
Shadows you've left
here to haunt me,
but I cannot make you stay.

Congratulations on the well-deserved award--An abundance of sincerity in this piece!
Asking all the sad questions that need to be answered truthfully!
Well Done!

Creative use of repetition! I usually don't care for repeated words, but in this verse they are perfectly placed and your random rhyming added to the imagery. "Shadows of you here beside me but I cannot make you stay." A very strong illusion! Thank you so much for entering my contest. Best wishes.
