My wisdom comes from
being a school-boy,
then a youth;
a dreamer of dreams
and a lover of books;
a war-time soldier
and a world-wide wanderer;
an open-minded seeker
for truth,
and a persistent wonderer.
Later, a father,
a worker and a worrier;
a sometime dawdler,
and occasional hurrier.
A great-grandfather
watching twigs blossom
on his family tree,
mindful of how he too
has branched
to reach maturity.
