“I will return,” her Captain pleaded
as he boarded his long ship
He embraced his heart with tear filled eyes
“I love you,’ he whispered and then goodbye
She wept, “Forever I will wait by the sea
for your touch I will long for eternity.”
She waved farewell as he slipped away
into shadows that the velvet night held
Over vast seas, tossing and churning
his endless nights, for her yearning
They longed for a crest or slope
that would return love’s hope
Years gone and memories never faded
she could stand no more, thinking him bladed
Took herself to the cliffs one last time
muttered this to be her last climb
Looked beyond gray and stormy skies
stepped to her death, her imminent demise
Now you see her among the mist
her sobs rent with the echoing waves
The villagers hear her sorrowful song
each night that the gusts are strong
Still her soul seeks with its hold
for love, this tale will eternally unfold
