Raindrops Keep Falling

Exposed, my heart lies bleeding,
unfulfilled was love's destiny.
Rain clouds off in the distance,
stole the sunshine away from me.

Wrapped in warmth of friendship,
baring my soul I ran to you.
Into the safety of your arms,
mid the rain friendship grew.

Thunder heard off in the distance,
my teardrops are falling like rain.
Naked, the pain rips into my soul,
me loving you now seems in vain.

As raindrops fall I sit and ponder,
of sweet things said I now wonder.
Where they of truth or of lies,
should I stay or just say goodbye.

Sit drowning in my falling tears.
as the rain and dark sky nears.
Through blinded eyes I can not see.
if my heart can ever set you free.

the distance storm clouds are the re-emergence of times, which hit home as if the storm erupted. To far to do some damage but always remaining overcast with either angst of memory. A lovely drama you've put into this.

  • Ah, tis another fine poignant write. Imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. Your title reminded me of an old song, with which you may very well be familiar:

Each new heart is a stepping stone

To carry us along on the road of life. Take the love that is offered. A gift is a wonderful thing. Love is the gift to move us along to the end. Not always meant to stay, just move us along the way...mac

    DEEPLY HEARTFELT!!!!

I know to me rainy days just heighten the sad and down feelings I am having. Even if there is nothing wrong rainy days just make me feel sad and depressed.

  • I think this shows so well the contrast between "love" and "lust", and I like how you tie in teardrops with the rain. Some people say rain is GOD'S tears over sinful man's destruction, since "God is love" (1 John 4:8)

My favorite stanza and the one that stands out the most is: "As raindrops fall, I sit and ponder,
of sweet things said I now wonder.
Were they of truth or of lies,
should I stay or just say goodbye?"

Powerfully honest! Another great write Sandy!

Awsome penning, for the prompt. The rhyme is nicely done. The quatrain work well, and the flow moves from stanza to stanza with ease and intensity. Great ending-Through blinded eyes I can not see. If my heart can ever set you free. Love is blind and unable to let it go. Great entry, good luck with the contest.

      Wonderful Coment Dear Friend!!

Hello Dan, So nice to see you on.
Oh Rain was always so romantic to me. Whether it be sad or happy love, it is full of emotions. Cools down the fiery passion it brings out or it can wash away the saddness of pain. Yes rain, oh beautiful rain.
You take care. Hugs and Smiles.

      Bless You,
      Always,
      Sandy
