From the eternal unrest I feel its presence,
That yet again so eerie ambiance,
The tingling shivers up my spine,
Hairs on neck standing up in a line!
I feel a coldness all around,
I am searching for its materialization abound,
Then before my wide open eyes,
I see its form materialize.....
The ghostly spectre stands before me,
Robes of silken grey and ghostly,
Its arms outstretched to call me over,
Into spirit it wants me to wander....
I am curious to know what lies ahead,
If I go with the ghost to a spiritual bed,
Will I experience eternal immortality?
Or will I be reincarnated again to see....
See the world through a new pair of eyes,
A recycled soul through the ghostly call I spies,
I feel the need to explore much greater,
What lies beyond this earthbound crater!
The ghost before me becomes more solid,
Then its face turns into something horrid,
The fear now sweating on my frightened brow,
I almost got sucked into the deathly vortex just now.
The spectre is the grim reaper in disguise,
I can hardly believe my saucer wide eyes,
I feel so cold and frozen with fear,
Have I died already and now heaven near?
What fate befalls my spirit as it ascends,
Courtesy of the reaper my soul transcends,
Is this but a scary dream of immortality,
Or is this now my ghostly reality?
Inside my heart is pounding hard and fast,
Would this haunting experience last and last,
I want to wake up from this nightmare,
And escape this grim reality here....
But is my life now expired as well?
Did the reaper take my soul?
This spectre an imagined ghoul?
Am I just a dreaming fool?!
No....it appears to be for real,
It has come to collect my humble soul,
From life I depart my time has come,
Only memories of a life amidst my feeling numb.
My soul wanders looking for a new place to rest,
The ghost of a spiritual future did not jest,
It has brought me to its own dimension,
Changed my view from that in life to spiritual vision.

There is no doubt your poem hit the picture right on the button!!!! Very good gave my the willies and very clever in flow and rhyme.

I don't believe in ghosts
(except maybe the ones inside of us,) but this is definitely a hair-raising read. It's a question for which we have no answer and, for most people, the unknown (which is often unknowable) is more terrifying than what is known.

absolutely fantastic, i like where you wrote
"Inside my heart is pounding hard and fast,
Would this haunting experience last and last,
I want to wake up from this nightmare,
And escape this grim reality here...."
i like that you included the paralytical fear notion, best line ever.
Well written, well done and surely scared the bejesus outta me
good luck to you.

Very atmospheric from the start, and I really like the way you captures a sense of tension and dread with your use of descriptive detail. Nice use of rhetorical questions throughout which make us and the poetic voice really question what we are seeing. Liked it, good luck in your contest and thanks as ever for sharing.
