Milk Duds

Monarchy
And paper mache
Bits of glue taint and stain
Ink filled faces

Civility
And sweet-smelling pesticides
A Spreading concentration
Of second-hand thoughts

Superficiality
Needed just as much
As it is not
As we continue
  clashing candy swords..

            licking them away

Author notes

Candy, specifically sugar candy, is a confection made from a concentrated solution of sugar in water, to which a variety of flavorings and colorants is added.

    Excellent

I think this achieves a lot as a sensual poem - it works well on the senses with aromas and a very visual content. The imagery was excellent and really drew my attention. This is a thoughtful poem with a lot of originality.
