It doesn't take a moment from your day
To stop and look at other people's lives
The troubles that they meet along the way
The smiles they're saving up for kids and wives
The train is filled by tales we cannot know
By people who have lives they put on hold
There has to be a way that I can show
We aren't just here to have our talents sold
I asked one man just what his tears were for
He told me how one day had torn his life
He could not talk to Stephen any more
His son was stopped by anger and a knife
I left him on the train in gentle tears
One moment of my life will last for years
Author notes
The train from Euston to Harrow takes 12 minutes and 30 seconds, I've seen him since, and he almost always has his tears.

You bring up the consideration of a moment, easily passed by, or shared with another soul. Hopefully, the somber weariness that abounds during commute time will transform to smiles and treasured time with families at home.
A willingness to reach beyond the borders of self in "there has to be a way that I can show" concerned interest, compassion. I think you are saying that there is more to living a life than shown on one's employment timecard, in "We aren't just here to have our talents sold."
You give a fine example of reaching with concern to a fellow passenger, "I asked one man just what his tears were for", and as you pointed out in the first stanza, it didn't add a second to your morning's commute.
His loss was deep and tragic, but I think there is truly a degree of comfort in knowing another soul understands the source of your grief, is acquainted with a precious name of one lost to us, and can give it utterance.
Author notes give the title great meaning.

Everyone has a story to tell, you just have to want to hear it, listen and pay attention. One single word can change a person's perspective, even a kind word is valued. Such a beautiful write. well done
