Nature is a haunted house
while Art is where we dwell
for all it takes is one red roof,
a wall of slabs will tell
what crumbles by the wayside
decays within the ditch
unless we keep our shutters free
of climbing vines, restitch
our samplers when they start to fray,
and beat our rugs of mites,
the poetry, by small degree,
might haunt us in delight.

This is my own photo of my daughter next to a barn in the Black Forest
and the cover of my chapbook, Poems of the Zinsbachtal.
