Your Ocean

We sit by the ocean side like we always said we would.
This is it, our dream day.
Watching the waves crash and pull back,
But watching you look away.
Our time together, here at last.
Yet you won't look at me.
But I'm quite sure five minutes will pass,
And then our love is meant to be.
Your usual mood swing,
Predictable yet unavoidable.
Not knowing when it will strike
Yet seeming so typical.
You are like my ocean,
I get to watch each day.
Beautiful and enticing
In your own way.
You shine in my eyes
And draw me to your water.
I wade in the shallow end,
Afraid to go much farther.
But a current suddenly hits me,
Somehow sweeping me off my feet.
Scary yet I enjoy it,
I hope for my fear's defeat.
I spin faster out of control,
Much to my own surprise.
Then I find myself calmly drifting
Into your placid blue eyes.
I float steadily to your heart,
And you begin to pull me in.
But then I see you've done all this
To push me back out again.
Pushing me farther and farther out,
I don't understand why.
All I can do is sit and wait
In your emotional tide.
As you push me farther away,
I find myself stranded alone.
Trying so hard not to drown
In this little dead zone.
You've pushed many here before,
I know I can tell.
But that was all the others
Who gave up on this hell.
I wade a while longer
And suddenly you pull me in.
So I enjoy these calm waters
Waiting for your emotional tide to begin.
I don't mind so much,
Each time I don't drift so far.
I just remind myself I love you,
And you are what you are.

Author notes

-Your emotions change faster than your circumstances.
So what you say may not be how you feel just a
few hours later. Remember, you don't have to
justify the shifts of your emotional tides.
They are what they are.
