Heirloom Of Love

Missing image

I’ll always remember the look on your face
you held me and giggled with glee,
my head told my heart I was in the right place,
this was just where I wanted to be.

The best of all friends we were from day one,
I loved you and knew you loved me,
our adventures through life had surely begun
as pals for the whole world to see.

When we first met we were both the same size
and that was just how it should be,
together we’d grow and I knew in your eyes
our friendship and love held the key.

Adventures were many with you by my side
having fun while we’re out on a spree,
the days grew much longer but I had my pride,
shut away here where no-one could see.

The cupboard was lonely, so dark and so cold
I thought I would never be free,
all that I wanted was someone to hold
and for someone to want to hold me.

The seasons have passed me and turned into years,
“Please love me”, is my silent plea,
my tummy is wet from the fall of my tears
and darkness is all that I see.

The cupboard door opens and I’m bathed in light,
I’m scared and I fall on my knee,
someone just kissed me, oh what a delight
“Do I know you…you seem to know me?”

Now new little fingers are holding me near
and stroking my soft fur with glee,
I know that I’ll love him and I’ll have no fear,
together it’s just him and me.

Teddy Bear...Mine

The picture is me and he was my teddy...and I love him!
He's a little threadbare nowadays, but he's still just as loved.

i love the background and the picture because it matches the theme sooo well. as for the poem... the rhyming flows and is very alluring. I think it's just adorable, my fav lines would have to be
"When we first met we were both the same size
and that was just how it should be,
together we’d grow and I knew in your eyes
our friendship and love held the key."
    amazing, keep writin

sweet and good capture of the toy. I had wished for more of the childhood aspect. I like your idea of having it handed down to (what I figure) the next generation.

koo-does for the piece it's self. But I wish it had more of your childhood in concrete detail.

  • Oh Suz this is gorgeously sweet, and my old Fred Bear, Golly and Andy Pandy love it too. There is something safe in our teddy bears that we never seem to find in humans, I still tell mine everything.

Aww, this is so poignant, isn't it funny that stuffed toys can be so emotional. I used to read a poem when i was a child about a woman who pulls out all the toys she had bought for the child she and her husband planned to have. Then we find out he has been killed in WWII and she puts the toys away. she'll never have kids with him now.

I always know that when I come to read your work that I will be delighted. As always the meter and rhyme is spot on and your ability to do this makes this poem a joy to read. This poem has wonderful layers as it starts off as being light then drifts to a darker side only to be lifted again by hope and love. The metaphor to life is brilliant and I can certainly relate as I loved my Teddy Bear and still do. The Picture is adorable and as I read your author’s notes; it’s you! I thought you were much older. Bravo my friend!

    Love,
    Amera♥

My own bear (snuggly) still hold pride of place above my bed wearing a knitted Crystal Palace football shirt and bobble hat, he is precisely two days younger than I am
