Silent Words Are Useless

I’ve got my opinions as any other;
Hopefully, I’ll be clear and you’ll understand
that our silent words are useless –
For the trees will willingly clap their hands.

The one true God spoke into existence
the birds, fishes, plants, mammals, Earth
and all forms of life including...
Humble beginnings of Mankind's birth.

The sound of our individual voices
is something that God covets and enjoys;
He wants our unadulterated praise verbalized
with heartfelt, cheerful, and celebratory noise.

Our real outward expressions of faith
for acknowledging His holy ways
can only be accomplished via…
Sincere, loving and audible praise.

So open your mouth during Church worship
and praise Him without doubt!
For your silent words are useless -
Causing even the rocks… to cry out.

Author notes

Thanks PDK for this contest - your prompts stir my spirit for poetic expression.

Spoken words have real power, to an extend that we don't truly realize. If one cannot praise God in the midst of His Sanctuary, then it's highly unlikely that one will do it outside of the Church. I know, for I'm speaking from personal experience.

I always give Him a healthy praise with my mouth and body language. I totally agree with your words here. More people need to heed to these words. I do even more so as a member of the Drama Ministry. I love giving praises to the Lord!! Thanks for sharing.

If I were mute, I would be really worried right now. Your poem is interesting and I thank you for entering it in my contest.

      People who are mute...

People who are mute praise God with their hands - in any case, it's still an act of worship. --Joe

Great write! When I decided to join the congregation where I worship now, one of the reasons was that, even though they (we, now!) are very small--only 12 to 15 in worship each Sunday, I could hear them sing! And God has blessed so that I am having the children do special music as well!

So very, very true. God gave us our voices for a reason, and He loves it when we use our voices to bless Him and His children. Ephesians 4:29!

Be watchful, for even though one may praise in the midst of His people, may soon return and curse in the midst of other people.

A powerful and poignant piece that wonderfully illustrates two eternal truths. 1.) God will be praised and glorified. 2.) He desires the hearts of men.

Continue to grow in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. Be a faithful man, find your field, then go and sell all you have and come back to purcahse that field. Be faithful with the few and become master of many, all for His glory.

Excellent title. Applies not only to worshipping God, but to approving, appreciating and expressing love to one another. Excellent incorporation of the scriptural, that the workmanship of His hands, even the trees and rocks, cry out to His praise and glory.
Given this, is it not amazing that what may choose not to praise His goodness and lovingkindness are His preoccupied children?
Nicely rhymed. Particularly, I enjoyed "the trees will willingly clap their hands," and "heartfelt, cheerful and celebratory noise." My favorite lines of all, "For your silent words are useless - causing even the rocks...to cry out!"

    Awesome

    I really enjoyed this one...
I was just pondering in my mind...my fear of preaching..but I know that if I continue to be silent then it is useless to the Kingdom of God...
.,..because anything that I do for Him ought to give Him praise, honor, and glory...

I really like the part where you said if we do not praise in the house...then we will not praise on the outside of the house...

This was awesome thanks for the wake-up call...

    Write on bro....

Compelling title. Silent words are useless in so many instances...love, business, etc. Your poem made me think of a favorite line from Shakespeare's Hamlet--almost the inverse of your poem: "My words fly up, my thoughts remain below: Words without thoughts never to heaven go"

I agree, spoken words have real power... But what is that phrase.. "actions speak louder than words".. Is also very powerful - Just because people go to church and 'worship' doesn't neccesarily mean they understand and have a connection with God.
From MY personal experience, I choose not to attend church on a weekly basis - for I feel I don't need a 'special' place to talk and communicate with God. I can do the same thing, in my own home.. I read the bible when I'm lead to, and go to church when I am lead to. Otherwise, I speak to God many times a day, wether out loud or in spirit, and I know I am truly connected with Him, without prasing in church.

This is just my opinion - Not trying to offend in any ways as everyone has their own way of worship and prayer.. or belief system. Spiritual writes always call for a discussion I beleive as there are many religions and ways of life.

    God bless you

    Amber

The spoken word is a powerful thing- whether one is of the Christian persuasion or not. We have a voice and it always surprises me how few choose to use it... or at least use it for the greater good. You write beautifully.

Having just witnessed the biggest gathering in Australia for World Youth Day and watching a Mass on TV, your words touch me because I know that they can bring people together for one reason, hope and love of God.
    Well done.

    First...
    HALLELULAH! PRAISE JEHOVAH!
Now that the shouting is over....I agree, praise and worship of God always involves noise - there is time for being quite with God (meditation, etc.), but praise is an audible thing...
great job with the poem - loved your thoughts

Great write!!!!! I like the way that everything flows to the last line. I think that the rocks cry out often because the words in so many of our churches (at least in America) never make it past the ceiling. Thanks for the challenge.

Amen brother! We need to be more vocal about our worship of God. Should show our joy of being children of God.
