Pictures on the wall, shattered when they hit the floor
Pictures on the floor, scattered like fruit in a grocery
store
For such disaster did strike, and this terrified headmaster
just sat in his leather chair and waited till dusk
Pictures on the wall, one too many times they had been
rattled, one too many crimes against these pictures on
the wall, it was the raging battle outside
Getting closer and closer
Pictures on the wall, portraits of composers
Now they were on the floor, creative works of art
that would be so ignored, something to boost up the
décor they were
But the battle outside saw the pictures transferred
A war of words would thus be exchanged
between the headmaster and the bastards outside
Who would win the fight, who could take on such an army’s
might
Till dusk the principal would wait, there he could escape
and join his pupils at the iron gates, just he should not
be late
And so there the headmaster sat and waited for dusk to fall
playing with his polo ball
Pictures on the wall, just another casualty of the war
Pictures on the wall, vibrations in the archways caused
them to fall
Now the pictures from the wall just lay there
scattered right across the floor, battered and ignored
Author notes
Inspired by the plight of innocent bystanders in a war situation.
