Billy and Dad

Billy slept alone
in his own bed tonight,
after Daddy made sure
that he turned on the light;
The little night-light
that Billy would need
to scare away all the bad people in dreams.

Billy held something
dear in his arms;
a small baby bunny
with a necklace of charms
that would protect he and Billy
whether frigid or warm
from all the bad people
who would ever do harm.

Billy knew something
he kept in his heart;
that bad people hurt you,
they hurt from the start.
But Daddy was strong,
and Daddy was brave,
and he'd put all of them
underground in a grave.

Billy knew Daddy had suffered before
when he left Merry England
to go off to war.
And he suffered each day
fighting horrible men,
and he did every bit
to see Billy again.

And the Bluebirds were over
the white cliffs of Dover.
And Billy felt, "Just you wait and see!"
Daddy would heal
and Mommy would heal Tomorrow,
now the world was free.
