She climbs into the saddle.
And holds on very tight.
The horse moves very fast
As they gallop into the sunlight.
She grips the slippery saddle
Tight with her bony knees.
He moves eagerly under her,
Ready to please.
Together they gallop,
The two become one.
As they canter on freely
Under the sun.
His mane flows back
And hits her face.
His tail streams behind
With elegance and grace.
Taking barriers and fences,
Landing on the other side with a plop.
She leans down even closer,
Not wanting to stop.
But all things come to an end,
As he gradually slows down.
She jumps off unwillingly.
And lands on the ground.
Then she turns to her mother
And says “Can I have another go, I’m real keen.”
But the answer is no and so they walk away
From the toy horse machine.
And holds on very tight.
The horse moves very fast
As they gallop into the sunlight.
She grips the slippery saddle
Tight with her bony knees.
He moves eagerly under her,
Ready to please.
Together they gallop,
The two become one.
As they canter on freely
Under the sun.
His mane flows back
And hits her face.
His tail streams behind
With elegance and grace.
Taking barriers and fences,
Landing on the other side with a plop.
She leans down even closer,
Not wanting to stop.
But all things come to an end,
As he gradually slows down.
She jumps off unwillingly.
And lands on the ground.
Then she turns to her mother
And says “Can I have another go, I’m real keen.”
But the answer is no and so they walk away
From the toy horse machine.
Author notes
Supposed to be a funny poem about a small child on one of those toy horse machines that you see outside shops / in shopping centres, and how free she feels on it - like a real horse as her imagination gallops away from her. And then all is revealed at the end - I hope you like it
