There is a tree out in the field,
a noble tree it is.
Standing there for many years,
a place for things to live.
A bug, a bird, a squirrel or two,
it’s old but it won’t fall.
Through sunny days and crispy nights
it stands real straight and tall.
Her waving, it entices me
to visit without end.
She’s been around most of my life
and always we’ll be friends.
She buds up green in early spring,
the cycle does begin.
Soon she’ll grow and leaves will come
and then she’ll be filled in.
And through the leaves the summer comes
with days so long and hot.
The shade it gives will spare the ground,
a dry and dusty lot.
The grass will grow so I can lie
in comfy style once more.
And I can long for better days,
of you and I before.
The summer fades right into fall,
my favorite time of year.
And all will change around us now,
what we see and smell and hear.
Her leaves will turn to rainbow shades
and show her brilliantly.
And when they fall she stands there bare,
for all of us to see.
The light is once again her friend,
reflecting all her curves.
Her trunk is strong and twists with style,
flows up and seems to swerve.
Into her branches reaching up,
they rise into a ball.
It’s just as if they’ll grow forever,
she is never going to stall.
In winter she will change again,
with snow on every limb.
Sometimes she bends but will not break,
her strength it lies within.
Mystically she gets along,
the seasons are her friends.
The winter chill, new life in spring,
and summer leaves that have no end.
But in the fall, she shows to me,
most beautiful of all.
In my life my favorite tree,
seems two hundred feet tall.
