Illusion

She sees him standing just across the way
He's leaning on an old brick wall
Red as rust, or lovers' blood, and starting to decay
A raindrop glistens down his hair
And falls just like a tear
She pulls her jacket closer
But she does it not for fear

Cobblestones and broken dreams
That's all they have to sell
This place holds nothing more for us
Just an empty shell
Illusion is our best friend
But he'll send us all to hell
So look away, and close your eyes
Before you're victim to his spell

He glances up, she gives a start
In that moment their eyes meet
The amber and the emerald
Into one do seep

The rain comes soft and steady now
Splish splash upon the street
He blinks, she turns, and then it's gone
And the rain comes down in sheets

Cobblestones and broken dreams
That's all they have to sell
This place holds nothing more for us
Just an empty shell
Illusion is our best friend
But he'll send us all to hell
So look away, and close your eyes
Before you're victim to his spell

He's leaning there on red brick dust
He begins to fade
A cry is poised upon her lips
But for this she was not made
Her path lies yonder, stretching far from here
And in the rain she walks away
But leaves a single tear

Cobblestones and broken dreams
That's all they have to sell
This place holds nothing more for us
Just an empty shell
Illusion is our best friend
But he'll send us all to hell
So look away, and close your eyes
Before you're victim to his spell

Two teardrops on that street did fall
on that rainy night
The wind awoke and blew them both
- as black as hematite,
Into the night from whence they came
Those teardrops did ascend
They'll be there in that starlit sky
Black as night until the end

Cobblestones and broken dreams
That's all they have to sell
This place holds nothing more for us
Just an empty shell
Illusion is our best friend
But he'll send us all to hell
So look away, and close your eyes
Before you're victim to his spell

Author notes

This was meant as lyrics (as you probably figured out). I know it's really long, and a bit abstract. This is another I hardly remember writing. I edited it a little, but this is more or less exactly as it was when I wrote it a few months ago.

  • That song is so sad! Wh must they all die? And why must people always find each other across a road in the rain?!?!?

    • and they didnt necessarily die...

      • Oh, did they simply get hit by a bus and go into a coma?

        • no, read it: "he's leaning there on red brick dust/then he begins to fade/a cry is poised upon her lips/but for this she was not made/ her path lies yonder, stretching far from here/ so in the rain she walks away/but leaves a single tear"

not "so she stepped into the road and was hit by a bus cuz shes dumb and then she went into a coma"

          • I never said she was dumb. And anyway, why did he fade? Was he the Goblin King or something?

    • because thats the way the song goes

    awesome! i love the chorus.
some of the lyrics don't match but it is still pretty.
by lyrics matching i mean they are different styles of speech which works but sometimes can be confusing.
