What’s At The Top?

Self-pity be-
A sickly yellow haze,
That mocks us at will…

We know this, but still we fall from how far we have climbed,
Into a thick gooey sludge,
That holds a pain staking grudge.

And so we languish there, without budge,
Until the time comes when we rise,
And realise, it’s only up to our knees.

We get up and begin the ascent to self- contentment,
Trying so hard to escape,
The sickly yellow haze, that rises within us.

Every decision, every step in our mission,
Leads to an obstacle of the grandest proportion,
And leaves us drowning in our own self-worth.

There is no life line to pull us free,
The trouble is, it’s all inside the head you see,
The right frame of mind is hard to find, so we struggle on.

We know it’s at the top of the climb, our time will come,
When we reach the summit,
Place our flags in the beauty, which will surely surround us!

  • First in the third stanza the third line realise should be realise...now onto other things lol...The last verse gives room for hope. Your rhythm and rhyme are wonderful. I loved the flow of the piece and it made me think. I love work that makes me think and ponder life in general, especially my own. Beautifully done. ~mandie~

    This is wonderful...

...I had not realised until now, what a wise person you are. This poem reflects such optimism and a positive view point on lfe. You have done wonders to realise all of this and then to put it in words so succinctly.

I particularly like your last verse, which gives room for a lot of hope.

    Absolutely marvellous.
