But his breathing started to decrease
Slowly as he tried to inhale the little bit of oxygen
That's flowing to his brain
But he's not taking in anything substantial
It's like he's been smolder and strangled
He's just not talking straight
His words are coming out like a drunken man's mess
It's blurs & bleeps & contradictions
And then it slowly turns into whispers
At 10:30
On a Wednesday night
He was finally pronounced dead
Past away, left, & slayed
Fuck, it's such as shame
The doctors believes it was heart failure
But I would have to disagree
Because that was the night hip hop died
And it was no accident
It was homicide, cold blooded murder
Author notes
This piece is about the current state of the Music Industry...specificly in Hip Hop [But let me state the Music Industry as a WHOLE is in a funk]
Nas was the first one to officialy state the death of this genre...and I have to agree. Hip Hop music in the mainstream media has completly become this huge horrible joke. There are probably a handful of nice lyricist left in mainstream hip hop/rap.
Thank god Nas's album dropped today because now I have an hip hop album to be excited for...as for now I'm pretty much listening to underground shit.
Any advice would be lovely?

I love this poem, but I vastly disagree. hip hop lives strong right now.
You say its dead in the mainstream...well yeah. It never was alive in the mainstream. No music can survive in that bullshit.

ha thanks for the feedback.
You are right...I mean Hip Hop was never meant to be "mainstream", but like any genre it can become a fad, like the current "pop emo" genre.
I wrote this piece because the other day I was listening to the radio...[yeah I know probably the worst place to find good music] and as soon as Lil Wayne started to play on the radio...I had to write this down. No offense to anyone but I can no stand him.
So yes I agree hip hop is not dead, there are plenty of good artist out their, but there are a lot of bad ones too.

See, I disagree. Hip-Hop's not dead.
It's very much alive.
Hip-Hop lives in the hearts and minds of true artists,
those who respect the fundamentals
of what made it great in it's hey day.
What's dead is the soul of those cliche spitting,
braggarts with no hearts,
comedians coming with with punchlines
like knock-knock jokes.
See, Hip-Hop lives like cats on the corners sipping on 40's,
like that bum on the skreet you pass
with the paper cup of nickels and pennies,
like those kids popping wheelies, shooting hoops,
those girls with lollipops showing crack,
like subway rides in the summer time.
See, Hip-Hop ain't Puff Daddy or blinging
or 50 cent singing hooks of his lastest song.
Hip-Hop lives. It's just these artist's thoughts and ideas that are dead.
Jeez, if music is food for the soul then we need to feed our children some fruits and veggies. They getting fat off of crap!
One.

wow...I agree with you so much
I love hip hop...my step dad is a huge fan...he was born and raised in the BX, so it was like he saw the birth of hip hop.
Don't get me wrong hip hop does live....but I asko think mass media and corrupted music industries are destroying the true talent that lives in the hearts of a lot of people, by celebrating these non talented hacks!
I guess a lot of people in my generation...{yes I am a young blood
] don't get it anymore...sometimes I feel I have an old soul, because I am always listening to the "old jams"
Thanks for the feedback...much love
