I didn't know I had made an enemy
Of my very good friend last year
It all just seem to come about
And it left me with many a tear
We had been out shopping
Just my friend and I
When we accidentally bumped into Joe
At once I thought my heart would fly
Because my feet took off in flight
When he escorted us to a cafe
He insisted on buying us a coke
This really made my day
He asked me if I would go out
With a fellow such as him
Of course I said what do you mean
He just smiled at me with a grin
I didn't know my good friend
Also had a crush on Joe
When he had left and we got up
She just literally stomped my toe
I was startled and a little afraid
She displayed such jealousy
She never again called me up
Just made me her number one enemy
I didn't realize she had such a temper
Until that day when Joe asked me out
I will never give her another chance
To frighten me again with her stomp and shout

We never truly know our 'friends' intentions, we just have to believe in them and trust them, obviously this doesn't always work. It's a shame when betrayal is the case. It's like they always say though keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but what about when your friend is your enemy, or surely you can't keep an eye on a straying friend if your eyes on the enemy?

miss, i sincerely hope that this is not a reflection of actual events as i assume from previous communications that you are not i middle school and such behavior as the narrator's friend displayed is hardly acceptable at that age and utterly ridiculous in adulthood! again, i like your style and witty diction...there is a graceful easy about your work that is refreshing to read. tres bon travailler! peace be with you

Mon bon amie, this poem is written for the prompt by the contest holder. I'm too old for school, well I take that back as I am in my second childhood. Thank you for reading my poem.

This is a hard one to try and think out.
I pray the cost of one friend is worth the price of another. Acting small is a sad thing maybe a prayer is the best resort for the one less friend....mac
