Night Vision - HM

Missing image
You were figment
of some black night’s imagination

Star-pinned
on dark shroud
after an open-mouthed smile
faded into darkness

Joy sputtering to an end
in sudden wary resemblance
to fear of black holes
and empty spaces

Closing one eye at a time
allows splinters of dying color

I become midnight
waiting for dawn
and second comings
that are not as promising
as another day fermenting
beneath this dark shroud

Difficult when we find ourselves in such a spot. Feeling let down, bewildered by crumbled expectation, hardly daring to hope again. My natural optimism will not allow me to stay in that place for long... even if I must pin up paper stars until real ones come again.

Beautiful imagery and such depth of emotion in these lines. I love the truth you have penned about "closing one eye at a time"--sometimes we have to do that to avoid the shock of sudden colorless dark. And, that's okay, I think.

    Really powerful ending, as well.

    Amazing

What can I say...you are amazing.
Your poetry demands more than one reading...it exercises the mind...keeps one clear and focused.
    Bravo
