I Remember the Day

One day I went to school,
I think I was in 3rd grade.
I got there,
And people looked worried.

The TV was on,
And planes were crashing into buildings.
I didn't know what was going on,
But it wasn't pretty.

We went outside,
And lowered the flag to half mast.
I didn't understand anything,
But it was horrible.

When I got home,
The TV was on and my parents were watching.
Names were running across the bottom,
And the Two Towers were gone.

The dust was billowing through the city,
And the flames had killed many.
The videos showed people running,
And some were jumping out of windows.

The next year on that day,
We lowered the flag again.
I now understood what had happened.
Terrorists had tortured our country.

I couldn't believe that anyone was stupid enough,
Or crazy enough to crash those planes.
Innocent people lost their lives,
And a war was started.

That war is still going,
And it's ridiculously stupid.
I don't understand why we're there...
At least not anymore.

That day almost seven years ago
Was a tragedy...
I'll never forget the stories I heard.
The kids at school were scared to death.

September 11, 2001 was a bad day.
Not just for a few families or people.
It destroyed buildings
And hurt everyone in the country.

I dedicate these words
In remembrance of the people.
They shouldn't be forgotten...
They were innocent and had no chance.

I can not only relate to the event of 9/11 -- watching along with thousands of other Americans glued to the television sets -- looking for answers. You did a terrific job relaying the message from those who were young and didn't know what was going on. Watching the faces of horror around you.

Nice job! I did enjoy reading your work! Thank you so much for entering the 5 option contest!

    Best of luck to you,
