Blackwater fever
spreads like a stain-
hurt's ink
painting pictures
across soul and sight
and the clumsy weight of wonder
widens ventricles of pain...
as hope curves carelessly
through solitary tears.
Meek mind keeps repeating
this questioning hell,
as months of memories
lie on stones of supposition
and this path paves too narrow
as tomorrow shies away
in clouds of defeat
that live lonesome
and die.
Snatches of conversation
starve sanity and worth,
dispersing belief
in the passing of time
and blind eyes bleed blue edges
in half-waking dreams,
seeming to stutter and flash
in failure's fatigue
and this panic is primal
as rawness rules strong
in honesty's doorway-
deliberately drilled.
Belonging is gone,
seeped in agony's soil
with rivers of no reason
that flow dry...and dead.
Promise kneels praying
on the cusp of each night,
as light sighs elusive
on canvas of feigned calm
yet harm already happened
as fear formed its stage...
when danger played havoc
with the plague bell
at dawn.

Gosh.
I was so enchanted by the words when I reached the end I realised I hadn't blinked at all as I was scared if I did I might miss something.
I see in your authors notes that this is inspired by a picture but I do not wish to look at it quite honestly as it reads so beautifully and dark down the page I felt as though I was seeing a movie instead of reading a poem
Thrilling poem!
Best of luck in the contest
