You feel it first as a pressure drop in the room. Then as an ache in the soles of your feet before it finally manifests itself into solid knot in your belly and a tension between your eyes. You turn your smile up to its full 100 watts but can’t stop the feeling that you’ve lost him, the boy whose voice has been on your telephone, whose hands have been in your pockets, whose head has been on your pillow. And all you can think is o god o god why doesn’t he sizzle beneath my stare? A little voice of sanity reaches out from the corner of your mind and it asks you why you bother fighting a losing battle. Why give more than you get? When you know that when this is said and done it will be you and you alone left to piece the mess that is your life back together. But the voice is squashed by the hopeless romanticism of your gender and you force a light into your eyes and grip his tee shirt that much tighter.

I'm feeling this exactly right now. I'm speechless and this brought tears to my eyes. Jane
