Superficial, shallow standards
Judge a person by their clothes
Character doesn't matter much
As long as you have money to
Take us out to lunch
Morals and ethics not easily seen
Money's more important it seems
Look like you belong and
Get thru life like a song
Dress as an individual
Acceptance is not
You are a "character" at best -
Lost out of space and time
At worst you are a clown
That everyone wants to put down
Individuality not respected as before
Conformity preferred or you're a nerd
15 years--How can a city change so much
Doesn't match memories - not by a bunch
Unless you've swallowed technology whole
You're laughed at - treated like a mole
Technology what a bowl
No longer seeing over the rim
Our view of life is getting dim
Human contact forgotten...
Machines communicate for us
And we are all alone
Author notes
After a 15 year absence, I returned to Seattle, and found the ethos of this city greatly changed and for a while it seemed very strange. This was written about 5 years ago.

Never been to the city but it sounds like you miss the city you grew up in, and I can relate to that. Nice write.

It's happening...
top my home town too. The wealthy business man. Two of'em in fact are buying up the whole town and turning it into one big tourist attraction. Thier own.
I moved to the woods so I could keep dancing in the rain and read my poetry for performance outloud to the critters. They do all think I'm crazy for reading to them because they know their squirrels. Hahaha....
Great poem, great messege.

I loved the humor in this comment. I'm a little squirrly myself at times. We have squirrels right in the heart of our residential areas and I love their crazy antics.
