Big Mike I write poetry
It includes poetry of every kind
But my very favorite poetry
Is writing poems that rhyme
If I write about a flower
It's usually the lovely rose
If I write about other things
It too is usually prose
Writing about Mother Nature
Takes another type of talent
Knowing about the growing seasons
And the sun and moon for balance
Now writing about people
Takes a person with lots of perk
To look so deep inside them
For some of them are jerks
Then there are people like Big Mike
Who never really understood
That poetry that rhymes
Sometimes is very good
So here's to our friend Big Mike
This poem is especially for you
Because I know you are Ben's friend
A friend that's oh so true
Perhaps some day you'll write a poem
And dedicate it to someone you know
I know it will be a lovely poem
That will set all hearts aglow
Author notes
This is for Ben's friend Big Mike. I hope he likes it. My poetry form is rhyme. I write because I like to write and I like poetry. I have written free vers on occasion.

Excellent use of the inspiration for the contest as a prompt.
I enjoy the rhyme scheme you employed. As much as I admire it, I think I have never used it.
It is always refreshing to see a poet go to slant rhyme when the full phonetic correlation is too much of a reach. (kind/rhyme; talent/balance) Poetry which is too married to rigid rhyming is the kind that causes folks to not take rhymed poetry seriously. It becomes doggerel in their consideration rather than disciplined art.
