Now we are trying to teach him to sit and stay
But he is young and just wants to run and play.
Sit Marshal, shake Marshal, sit Marshal, stay!
And when it rains and he gets all wet
The smell of wet hair you will not soon forget
But then I remind myself not to fret
Because Marshal is our new pet
Just give him a bath and use lots of spray
It'll help keep the doggy odors at bay
Then take him out side to run and play
Teach him to sit, shake, rollover and stay
Marshal has become part of our family now
Though I am still wondering and scratching my brow
And asking myself why, but mostly how
Cause 'No more pets' that was our vow
We have no regrets, he's here to stay
And we'll teach him to sit, rollover and stay
Then when we are old, wrinkled and gray
Marshal will still be around to play.

Author notes
We have aquired Marshal from my grandson. This is he second dog he has ask us to take because he could not keep him where he lives. If he ever has a place for Marshal and wants him back again we will gladly but sadly let him go. Kobe was the first dog we kept for him and we had him with us for many years before he got sick and old. Marshal is a young dog so I imagine he will live for many years to come.

a million thank yous.
Are you sisters, Darlene and Maureen? Your names go so cool together.
A million thank yous
Thank to you both, Maureen and J' aime Coudre
Dear J' aime
Happy New Year
belated greetings received. For being computer challenged you certainly got the job done, and that's what matters. This will always be special to me. Yours is the best happy new year greetings I have ever received. Thank you a million times! I wish you, and yours, and Marshal, nothing but the best of everything. And as I am sure you know, but it is always good to remember, "As long as you have your health, your a millionaire." Another quote from "Emerson", I sincerely hope you never have to use much of, "Despair is the debris upon which we build our character." Thank you, and best wishes for many happy new years to come.

Hi Wesley,
Glad you got the Happy New Year greeting...Maureen did all the work...I just did the asking.
No, Maureen is not my sister. I know her from being a member of Hugh Wiles group but she is a very nice lady.
My real life sister is Catz...she is the one responsible for getting me started here on AP becasue of some old poetry and essays I wrote back in the 80's for school credits...
When you have time check out some of my early writes...they are the best of my poetry...now I mostly only have time for frivilous stuff...but do enjoy it...
I am taking a haiku class here on AP right now...do that mostly at night..Will post some I finally got accepted by the teacher but will ahve to do it later on...no time to play right now...
Have a good week, will chat again later on...Darlene

He looks so cute! Dogs (and rabbits) can be such a fun. Last dog I had also died from old age, he was simply lovely. Marshal is lucky to have found a new home where the lady of the house writes poems for him

Where I live now is too small to keep a dog. I have a rabbit, she doesn't roll over but she licks our nose.

-
Wow, Rabbits are coming into my life again but in a different way..you are the second friend in a week who has said they have a rabbit for a pet...my only relationship with rabbits to date is having them for dinner when I was young...
I don't do that now though.
Thanks for reading my poem about Marshal..Our last dog had cancer and we had to have him put to sleep...loved him...I have a poem and a picture on here about him...His name was Kobe...

Ah in six months you'll never want to let Marshal go! I like dogs, don't have any because when they die I feel sad, plus I'm too lazy to take care of one. Still I miss having one as my partner in crime.

He looks like a good, friendly critter. I'll come over on Saturdays and take him for walks...we'll sit in the park and eat baloney sandwiches. I'll teach him to like Moxie.

You are right Yem, it will be hard to give him up later if we are ask to but we will...My grand son has had to give up all his pets because of his (not appropriate for public viewing) wife.......so if ever he is in a position to keep Marshal we will do it...other wise Marshal is here to stay.
Did you want mustard and mayo with your baloney sandwiches and I bet he will love sharing your Moxie..he seems like a Moxie kinda fellow..
Thanks for the comment..

God bless Marshal and his adoptive family who broke their vow so they could be merciful. He looks somehow to me like a very special dog with a very special destiny of good luck to bring someone. I believe!

Dear Wesley,

A cute read and what lovely photo. It looks like he's smiling...a happy dog in his new home! (awww).

Hi Georgiana,
I hope you are feeling a bit better now...They say time heals all wounds so let us hope it is true and perhaps from the mighty oak will come a new sprout and then a new oak to replace the one lost...
Yes, I think Marshal is smiling..he certainly is a fun dog...keeping us on our toes...he is used to being outside all the time and we can't do that since we don't have a fence so right now we never know if he is wanting to go out to potty or just to go out..my poor hubby is up and down and in and out...we will get the kinks worked out soon...

This is a sweet poem, Darlene. I bet you end up keeping him like you did Kobe, though. Remember Jake, our Black Lab? That's how we aquired him... from a froendwho just needed a place for him to stay while the looked for a place where they could keep him... yeah, right ! He was with us for nine years before he died. I wish I still could have him.
Your poem is great... it sure didn't take Marshall to inspire you to write about him, Sis

Dee

Hey sis,
We were so used to Kobe and he was so old and calm it is hard to get used to Marshal who thinks we should run around and play with him all day...but we will get through this...in the mean time I need safety shoes cause he keeps stepping on my toes and he needs his nails cut...ouch...
Today's lunch with Elsie was fun...more later..."F
