Existence

Nietzsche sits alone in a cafe,
cupping his hands around his coffee mug.
He ignores everyone
and wave away the waiter.
Occasionally he will look at his watch
and then take another sip of the empty mug.
He comes to this cafe once a week
and walks out in precisely 25 minutes.
For tip, he leaves behind a piece of paper
with the word "existence" on it.
A young man asks Nietzsche,
"What time is it?"
Looking at his broken watch,
Nietzsche replies solemnly,
"There is no time in existence."

Author notes

"Existence really is an imperfect tense that never becomes a present"- Nietzsche
