Lie still my friend
Put your troubles away,
Rest now my friend
Your duty done.
You fought so hard
You fought so long,
You never asked why
You never knew why.
I've seen you cry
In the long night,
I've seen you laugh
With the coming dawn.
Not yet past eighteen
But an old man in heart,
You've seen so much
You've seen to much.
Baptised in blood
But none of it yours,
Born again in fire
Forever bearing the scars.
Who can tell your tale
Who can speak for you now?
One of the forgotten
One of the lost.
We will read of your life
In a dusty old book,
But will we ever know
Who you truly where?
Safe in our peaceful lives
Away from your hell,
We can never understand
What youi sacrificed.
We don't have to see the horror
We don;t have to smell the blood,
We can be blissfully ignorant
Of what you once faced.
I can hear the voices
Of the lost and the damned,
Tears stain my face
As I weep for the dead.
I look at my people
How far we have fallen,
Good men died for us
So we could forget so easily.
I am no Christian
No messiah rules my heart,
Yet still I repent
But not for one man.
Thousands died for our sins
But they where not men of God,
Common lads like you and me
Who fell on a foreighn field.
They gave of themselves for us
So that we could be free,
I thank them each and every day
And try to be worthy of their sacrifice.

Perfection
That was simply amazing, obviously the one doing the contest is either young and clueless or just an emotionless turd.
This was very well done. I read for the content not the grammer or spelling, lame people. You touch on something that so many deal with in their hearts right now.

so yea, please fix your spelling mistakes. i'm sure this is emotional on a personal level, but i didn't really sense it much. however there were a few stanzas i really enjoyed.
Baptised in blood
But none of it yours,
Born again in fire
Forever bearing the scars.

Forever bearing the scars.
