Traitorous Tears

Traitorous tears,
Oh so backstabbing tears,
Why have you come back to betray me
Once again?

Streaming down my face night after countless nights,
You're just memories of all my suffocating struggles and fights.
Each time your river starts to flare and rage,
I can see the memories like I was reading them on a page.

Some nights I just want to sit down and read that old book,
I'll lie down, open "Our Winter" and take a longing look.
I'll read and read, sometimes all night, or until I fall asleep.
Drifting off into my sleeping slumber, upon me my dreams will creep.

Traitorous tears,
Oh so backstabbing tears,
Why have you come back to betray me
Once again?

The moonlight is always there, shining through that one slit in the sky.
My head against your chest, I'm looking up and I feel like I'm ready to cry.
The stars are all silently shimmering, but I'm only gazing at one,
And I can feel my heart melting in your arms as I'm coming completely undone.

I turn my head to nuzzle my face into the warmth of your side,
But suddenly awaken to my frozen pillow and my heart totally tongue-tied.
My face soaked from the raging river of frivolous tears,
And I've awoken to me and myself, all alone... The worst of my fears.

Traitorous tears,
Oh so backstabbing tears,
Why have you come back to betray me
Once again?

Wowww, bro, this was incredibly written, as always. I can't believe I never read this poem of yours. I feel like I'm slacking haha. Beautiful write, filled with anguish & pain, yet so much love. That's what I really like about your poems, how you can compare the two so clearly & well.

I love the personal references in this stanza. I know what it's like to look for something that just isn't there. I really do. Keep it up, dear. This is great.

sometimes we all need to cry. unfortunately i know this tangled web of feeling all too well.. this twisted yearning for someone that it's actually there... that pillow... the infamous pillow of all things beloved. i have one of those too.

i sincerely hope u find you person to snuggle and that they bring you no such tears.

nice write. best luck and best wishes.
