"Got sleep?"

'Got sleep?'
by: Joshua Smithİ
______________________

Sleep doesn't come
to me easily.
Then again,
either does the morning.
There is much time spent in bed churning,
until I find open eyes locked on the clock.
A full opal moon looms into my bedroom.

Drag my heavy bones out of warm covers,
and into night's piercing cold.
Trekking down steep stairs is getting old,
onward to my destination where I can recover.

Insomnia makes some
nights flow uneasily.
Sustaining strain
much like when mourning.
Yearn for a slumbering dreamland ignites a burning,
in eyes that watch flickering pictures in shell shock.
A luminous waning moon looms into my living-room.

In the tiled kitchen I was soon to discover,
an icebox full of white gold.
A glass and a half, my eyes began to fold.
Milk does good to get my body under bed covers.

    Great write!

I especially loved ll.11/14, the taking up of covers and double sensing of recover, and l. 17 sustaining strain - simply the sound. Although milk doesn't seem to have neither the same importance nor effect on my sleep, I did follow (and enjoy) your write due to its fluency to the last line. Thx: Götz

You feel the same way about sleep that I do, by the way, I think it should be 'neither' instead of 'either' in the fourth line, anyway this poem really burns, great write.

    It's Great!

I love your expressive form and how it made me hang on until the last verse/stanza. I was on the edge of my chair wondering what you would find, and then laugh aloud to myself because you just got a glass of milk...Great work and a wonderful read. You have talent...mandie

This is really good, very poetic in a kind of traditional sense. It's very eloquent, and it was a nice read.

"Milk does good to get my body under bed covers. "
I like that, it makes me want to drink milk and go to sleep and just rest for a thousand years. This is lovely, I really enjoyed it. Good imagery.
