Between Sidewalk and Sky

My eyes open and
it is night, the moon hanging
high in the sterling clouds,
shining pure and dull over me.

The sky roars like an ancient beast,
shaking through me and so
suddenly blazing electric,
crackling and blue so that even
the moon disappears,
just a flash in the twilight.

I press my hands to the glass
that shivers beneath my fingertips.
The rain streaks down, reflecting
the city lights that tell nothing of your
arrival, showing only my face in the
empty windows around me.

I can hear thunderstorms roll over
the waves of the lake and smell
rain in the air, but you are
nowhere to be seen. There is only
me, the rain, and my cold hands
waiting for yours.

I do not know where you are tonight,
lost somewhere between the
sidewalk and the sky.
But I will hope that you are
somewhere where the sun may find
you, warming your face and
hands, so unlike mine tonight.

The rain courses down and
the empty streets shine like
stars, hollow in the night.
I touch cold fingertips to my face
and wait for the dawn to
bring you to me.

Good picture of desolation - the rain and the cold glass give it a special touch. Thanks for entering! Best wishes, BookGirl
