Dragon Vision

Across green fields of Elvin land,
The mountain trolls had cast a pall.
The elves prepared for one last stand.
Across green fields of Elvin land,
The Royal Princess in command,
To fight the trolls once and for all.
Across green fields of Elvin land,
The mountain trolls had cast a pall.

A dark of silence in the light
Where soon a bloody war will rage.
What brought about this tragic sight?
A dark of silence in the light,
Where polished armor’s gleaming bright,
And flesh will mortally engage.
A dark of silence in the light,
Where soon a bloody war will rage.

Upon last twilight’s shadows gray,
The princess heard a singing voice.
Across the forest she would stray,
Upon the twilight’s shadows gray.
The song was but a witch’s play,
The princess made a risky choice.
Upon the twilight’s shadows gray,
The princess heard a singing voice.

The witch had lured her far away,
From safety of her father’s reach.
She realized late, to her dismay,
The witch had lured her far away,
To have the princess for buffet,
And stunned her with an evil screech.
The witch had lured her far away,
From safety of her father’s reach.

A vision, where a wizard came,
And whispered something in her ear.
He said that Alsed was his name,
A vision, where a wizard came.
His being set her heart aflame,
“This ring will keep you safe my dear.”
A vision where a wizard came,
And whispered something in her ear.

The witch then tied her to a rail,
And took the wizard’s ring she wore.
The princess fought to no avail.
The witch then tied her to a rail.
The princess tried to scream and flail,
She could not struggle anymore.
The witch then tied her to a rail,
And took the wizard’s ring she wore.

A blaze of light flashed in the night,
The wizard’s words were coming true.
A dragon with eyes burning bright,
A blaze of light flashed in the night.
The dragon brought a bloody fight,
The witch’s head bitten in two.
A blaze of light flashed in the night,
The wizard’s words were coming true.

The dragon seemed to disappear,
The princess wore the ring again.
As Alsed’s voice spoke in her ear,
The dragon seemed to disappear.
“The witch’s sisters see and hear,
The troll’s black magic’s their domain.”
The dragon seemed to disappear,
The princess wore the ring again.

The princess stood and did not run,
She spoke to Alsed with her mind,
To thank him for what he had done.
The princess stood and did not run,
She vowed the heart that Alsed won,
She spoke to him in thoughts refined.
The princess stood and did not run,
She spoke to Alsed with her mind.

In breath love’s brought to bear //
Blessings are freely giv’n //
With grace heart’s faith will sing //
Songs of eternity //
Unto your soul I pledge //
Peace and security //
With courage I submit //
To make you my desire

My being needs embrace //
Beyond bold flesh’s touch //
Take me into your soul //
Soar with me in clouds //
Comfort me with your stars //
I shall soothe all your doubts //
Make darkness become light //
With all life I possess //
I’ll satiate your life //
In loving countenance

The princes gently bowed her head,
Her vow was made, she quickly ran.
On darkened trail she quickly sped.
The princess gently bowed her head,
By magic dragon eyes was led,
Across the darkened forest’s span.
The princess gently bowed her head,
Her vow was made, she quickly ran.

The Elves made haste, sounded the call,
All battle stations aptly manned.
The word went out to one and all,
The Elves made haste, sounded the call,
The archers poised upon the wall,
The infantry upon the land.
The Elves made haste, sounded the call,
All battle stations aptly manned.

The battle raged throughout the day,
The dragon slew three witches more.
Such bravery the Elves display,
The battle raged throughout the day,
Until the mountain trolls gave way,
And turned from fighting anymore.
The battle raged throughout the day,
The dragon slew three witches more.

Then as the twilight sun grew dim,
The princess left to keep her vow.
And take the wizard’s spoils to him,
Then as the twilight sun grew dim,
She slid her body lithe and slim,
Behind the flying dragon’s prow.
Then as the twilight sun grew dim,
The princess left to keep her vow.

Author notes

The narration is a triolet, then the princess speaks in an old Germanic alliterative verse of hemistichs, each linked not into sticks as A + B, but in chains where any hemistich is part of a stich with either the preceeding or following hemistich. This is the reason they are seperated and not in pairs.

    Brave narrative of fantasy world

told with some scholarship and, of course, in Stanzaic triolets. Character was followed closely.
Thank you for being a part of our contest anthology.

Wow. This is really an astounding piece of work. Very very well done maintaining consistency in the Triolet form without becoming redundant.

Good character development in this as well. Written with a practiced hand, there is much to be thrilled with in this piece.

Bravo poet! Thoroughly enjoyable. Best of luck in the judging. ~Pamela

    Bravo

A most ambitious and successful undertaking. The triolet is, as the Brits might say, a tricky business. To use it in stanza form even trickier. (I did one with a bout 8 stanza and I thought I was going to die!) The poem is a tour de force. A few quibbles, but so what! Excellent! I loved it. The final stanza was exceptionally potent! Bravo... bravo... BRAVO
