Immortality
To continue to exist
Forever
But immortality
Is not real
Is it?
We die
Our bodies decompose
Our children live on.
In a way, we live on too
For a piece of ourselves
Is given to our children
And to theirs
And so on.
But, with each generation
We fade away.
And so we die
We fade to nothingness
Or do we?
Matter is neither created
Nor destroyed,
Only recycled
The molecules,
The atoms,
The building blocks of ourselves
Dissolve
They dissolve into the Earth,
To replenish
To become the building blocks
Of another life
And so we continue to exist.
Our bodies’ cycle,
Between organisms,
And the abiotic environment.
One minute we are the air,
Then the ocean,
Then a scale on a fish.
We are recycled
And thus so
We achieve
Immortality

Whitman said it in four words:
"All flesh is grass".
