how is it that you're free?
we're now enslaved
and digging graves
from sea to shining sea.
How the hell could one find
energy in a can
when all we lack
is the motivation to get up
off our asses and work
the way they did back then.
and who are we to say
that he or she must pray this way
to him,
to her,
to nothing at all.
in the school
in the courthouse
in the fucking city hall.
and who are they to say
we are a unit.
when we are america divided
into more opinions than street corners
with a hungered soul on every one
starving for freedom
but lack the will to pay the cost
meanwhile they say "support the troops"
while only they bleed for us.
fuck the draft and the man
there's nothing left to bring us peace
nothing but the targets, red--
for the bombs to start droppin.
with a little love
we could cure the masses
and heal the hearts
and kick the asses
of greed, hate, crime and unnecessary death.
i lay my head down at night
contemplating the meaning
of things in my life
and realize that the bombs bursting in air
may keep me from dawns early light
We fly the banner
but for what?
the land of the free
plus the cost of living?
the home of the brave...
who are we kidding?
America, America
this place is hell to be.
no grace to save this nation lost
from rationality.

The second stanza is my favorite. I often find myself noticing the lack of motivation in myself and others. You have a well written piece here. I enjoyed the mature and angry voice here. It's so raw and honest. I love it. Everything you've put in is easily relatable for the reader if they just take the time to think about it. Great job.

when we are america dividedYou have said so much in this, a shame that most cannot see it. I am in the military myself and I agree with everything you said in this piece. Normally I don't comment too much on one author but you have captivated me with your last comment on my writing. I must read more of yours as I see you have a lot of truth coming out and in great visions.

This is great! I really enjoyed this and laughed at several parts because I belive you are correct, and it's so hilariously pathetic that this is what our nation has come down to.
