Though I hardly know you
I don't know how to trust or love you.
When you look at me
and talk about the sparkle in my eyes
and the pain you sense I've known,
I want to tell you
Leave my insecurities alone.
Forget the past,
Doesn't everybody need a little hardship to stay strong.
Sometimes I wish I were a princess,
But I confess, I'm only human.
You don't have to love and nurture who I was,
Just love me now, as I am, chipped, happy and imperfect.
Please tell me what you think

Great poem!
Hey shortyjo. I loved this poem. It is stating the independence of self-esteem, built upon the trials of life. Never ashamed of how we turned out. WELL DONE Mate

"Chipped, happy and imperfect" is such a strong statement. The poet accepts herself, and that is a blessing and a wisdom that is worth more than gold. I like this very much.
