DR:
"DANCING IN THE DARKNESS"
I sat up straight early one morning, remembering my dream; 15
A crowd of silent statues came to life - or so it seemed. 14
I was outside in a valley, where not a soul could see; 14
One grabbed my hand. They each took turns and danced with me. 12
Somewhere in the shadows, the grass grows long and tall; 12
They hid in a moonlit meadow, and I could hear them call. 14
Gentle, graceful, gliding figures - softly stepping by my side, 15
So quiet that it frightened me and made me want to hide. 14
Gazing at veiled faces, I saw mysteries untold; 13
I didn't like this at all. It made my blood run cold. 13
I could not break free from their grip. I knew I must be bold; 14
For as the wind swept past my face, they whispered lies of old. 14
"We own you now!" they seemed to say, as if I were their slave, 14
But as we kept in step, I knew that now I must be brave. 14
I fought and struggled, twisted, turned - trying to break free, 13
But each time I resisted they held tighter onto me. 14
They wore masks and fancy hats. They jeered and sipped their tea, 13
As if they'd gathered just to mock and torture me. 12
Then a prince approached and looked me in the eyes; 11
He picked me up and danced with me - with the clouds in the sky. 14
I laughed as he lifted me, for this man wore no mask, 13
But as the night waxed on, there came another task. 12
A tear slowly slipped down my cheek as he began to die, 14
And when it touched his shoulder, he cried out into the sky. 14
"It's finished!" he exclaimed at the climax of his pain; 13
Although his words had echoed out, my faith hadn't remained. 14
"Never ever leave me!" This was the last thing that I said, 14
But as I wept bitter tears, he closed his eyes and hung his head. 15
Then voices came out of nowhere, haunting me once more; 13
"He's dead!" they cried, then scoffed with pride as they had before. 13
As the dawn broke, I woke and smiled, slowly raising my head; 14
The Prince of Peace - the King of Kings - He was alive instead! 14
"You're alive!" I shouted. I barely could contain 12
The hope deep in my heart, which swept away my heavy pain. 14
Nothing in the world mattered much at all, 10
As long as he was there with me to catch me when I fall. 14
He wiped my tears then disappeared into a starry night; 14
As the sun rose, I stood there glowing in its golden light. 14
I faintly could recall those figures spinning around the room, 15
But in my heart, I knew he would come back for me - and soon… 14
"YOUNG PRINCESS"
On a summer's day in May, 7
A maiden wandered through a meadow. 9
Something chased her away; 6
In the distance, she could see a shadow. 10
Such a sweet girl - now you be good. 8
Do what you're told. You know you should. 8
Poor princess - always misunderstood! 9
Would you run away if you could? 8
Mother says you're just going through a phase, 10
But it feels like you've been lost in a maze for days. 12
The world is big, but you're so small, 8
And you don't have a chance at all. 8
You've spent your life in this strange place; 8
Longing to run away so bad. 8
And as these tears run down your face, 8
You think of what you could have had. 8
Lost is the purity of truth; 8
Gone is the innocence of youth. 8
Once a princess, young and fair; 7
Now a harlot - pride is there. 7
The journey there has been so long, 8
But on the way, you've grown so strong. 8
From youth, you've studied maps and charts, 8
Patiently practicing the arts. 8
Climb down from the castle into the trees - hide in the yard; 14
You have to be elusive to escape the royal guard. 14
In the woods, wolves stare silently, fixed on your face, 12
Feeding off your fear - cutting to the chase. 10
Your Mother was poisoned; your Father was betrayed. 12
It seems God has not heard the words you've prayed. 10
Before you know it, you're lost - then trapped; 10
It wasn't your fault that you got kidnapped. 10
People stood all around; 6
None of them made a sound. 6
A rose fell to the ground; 6
She could hear her heart pound. 6
Forget this sad and tragic place, 8
The tears that stained your mother's face; 8
The past is gone without a trace; 8
The future's all there's left to face. 8
Rip up the letter 5
If it makes you feel better. 7
Now you must fulfill the prophecy; 9
Are you ready for such a great responsibility? 14
Foolish child, your cursed crystal charm 8
Keeps you from hope and brings you harm. 8
The glowing gemstone you softly stroke 9
Could crush your soul - cause you to choke. 8
A halo hovered there around her hair; 10
She's fair and beautiful beyond compare. 10
You look like an angel with those innocent eyes, 12
But you are just the devil in disguise. 10
She turned to leave - took one last glance, 8
Finding herself trapped there, lost in that trance. 10
She had never seen such a peaceful place; 10
It was beautiful beyond time and space. 10
At the moment of truth, you turn and run away; 12
The whole world's dying, but you can't save anyone anyway. 12
Each step you take - every mistake you make; 10
Is a separate battle with more at stake. 10
For a moment, their hollow hearts glow warm, 10
But then quickly revert to their first form. 10
Perhaps these poor puppets prayed in the past; 10
Now they've stopped singing, silent at long last. 10
Your fear shall lead the Dragon King here; 9
He must never find your weakness, my dear! 10
I'm sorry, but you cannot stay here safely; 11
Against such odds, there can be no victory! 11
So she made a deal with the Dragon King, 10
Her soul was the only thing she could bring. 10
The princess whispered a final farewell, 10
And left heaven to go back to hell. 9
How the faithful princess has become a harlot; 12
Now her royal robes are stained with sin like scarlet. 12
As for her lovers, they have betrayed her; 10
Each has dealt treacherously and none remain to comfort her. 14
It seems the princess has become a slave; 10
Troubled tears slip down her cheeks at night, for her sins are grave. 14
The elders sit there on the ground, throwing dust on their heads, 14
From prince to peasant, garments rent, mourning upon their beds. 14
"ALONG CAME A SPIDER"
Bodies hanging in the air; 7
Blood is dripping everywhere. 7
Their cocoon is like a crypt; 7
They dance in drops of blood that drip. 8
Catching every lost soul who falls, 8
Treating their bodies like rag dolls, 8
Spiders crawl through the hellish halls, 8
Spinning their webs from the walls. 7
Swift shadows move in the moonlight; 8
Disappear in the darkness, staying out of sight. 12
Spiders sneak through your window late at night; 10
Yet they tremble at the thought of light. 9
Spiders in the shadows waiting in the darkness 12
For you to fall in webs of wickedness. 10
That's where they're slain and strangled; 7
That's where they're trapped and tangled. 7
Don't ever touch those tempting threads, 8
Seductive silk - silver strands of spider-webs. 12
Leaving you as food for their hatching young, 10
They're crawling over you - the creatures you're among. 12
Feel the soft silk on your smooth skin; 8
There's a body wrapped up within. 8
Some are still struggling to survive; 9
It almost feels like they're alive. 8
Thus comes the end of the spider who grew 10
So proud of his power he hardly knew 10
The strand suspended in the air 8
Hung in God's hands by just one hair. 8
They'll take whatever they can get, 8
Feasting on the fools falling in their net. 10
Though these poor souls are lost or lame, 8
To demons, they are all fair game. 8
"SEA OF LOST SOULS"
It's no ordinary ocean - it goes on forever. 14
Like no place you have been, ending never. 10
It's wave after wave of sorrow and fear; 10
A tide of terror - an ocean of tears. 10
Souls meet their graves - within the black waves; 9
Their dreams are dead - nightmares are there instead. 10
Sinking in your sorrow - drowning in your doubt; 11
You don't even know - what life's all about. 10
Let the waves take you away; 7
Your soul is here - it's here to stay. 8
Blood splashes up against the shore; 8
You don't want to live anymore. 8
The wind keeps whispering your name, 8
Wondering why you came. 6
Now there's nothing you can do; 7
You're trapped there too. 4
"THE SEA OF SHADOWS"
She stood between life and death, 7
Where time is short and but a breath. 8
Whispering in the wind, she cried, 8
For all her dreams had died. 6
The waves could consume her whole; 7
They would swallow up her soul. 7
So deep and dark - so cruel and cold; 8
The sea must've been ages old. 8
Her hair waved in the wind; 6
As she walked into the water. 8
Descending into the darkness, 8
She kept going deeper. 6
Her footprints were forgotten, 7
So no one else would know; 6
Taken by the tides of time, 7
By the dark Sea of Shadows. 7
"FORSAKEN FOREST"
Wait, traveler, taking warning; 8
You must stay here until morning. 8
It's dangerous outside tonight; 8
A shadow's hidden out of sight. 8
In her lair, she will lie, 7
Waiting for you to pass by. 7
Moving so quickly, you could swear 8
That she was never really there. 8
And as the wind sweeps through her hair, 8
You find yourself lost in her mysterious stare. 12
When morning comes, others will find 8
No trace of you has been left behind. 9
Every word I speak is true, 7
Stay here - or it will happen to you. 9
Heed my words, or you'll become 7
Her next chosen victim. 6
"WANDERING THROUGH THE WOODS"
One night while I walked through the wood, 8
I came across a sign that stood. 8
It warned me this was the wrong way, 8
But I kept going anyway. 8
Then I took a deep breath 6
And tried hard to be brave. 6
Up ahead, I could see 6
An unmarked grave. 4
As I wandered, I grew weary, 8
Twisted trees so dark and dreary. 8
Through the branches, starlight shows; 7
What secrets they hide nobody knows. 9
In silence then a stranger stood; 8
With a weapon hidden under her hood. 10
Why didn't I stay home where it was safe 10
Like my mother said I should? 7
"GRAVEYARD SHIFT"
On a mighty mountain 6
In a dark wood, 4
Willows whispered a warning 7
Where silent statues stood. 6
Twisted trees trapped in the ice, 7
Crystal sculptures stood in the snow. 8
Branches bending beneath burdens, 8
Glittering a glorious glow. 8
These cold, hard hearts of ice 6
Were trapped in place to pay the price. 8
That's where their souls were sacrificed, 8
This world worth more to them than life. 8
Suddenly skeletons rose from the ground. 10
I approached the graveyard; I could feel my heart pound. 12
My eyes opened wide at the gray sight of gloom. 11
Torchlight glowed up ahead as I stepped into the room. 13
"WICKED WOLVES"
Running through the meadow, I danced in the golden sunlight; 14
Swimming in sapphire seas - sleeping under emerald palm-trees. 16
I woke up in the night; deadly dragons surrounded me; 14
Wolves snapped with their teeth, but I couldn't break free. 11
I fell into my own trap; they chained me in my sin; 13
And led my heart to the point of hypocrisy again. 14
I was held captive under guard and angels tried to save me; 15
I was the prisoner of pride. My own lust had enslaved me. 15
They were wolves - we were sheep; they feasted at night. 11
They fed upon our very frustration and fright! 12
I heard mournful moans from an abandoned abyss; 12
I grasped at the bars and pounded with my fist! 11
I saw a Shepherd hanging on a tree; 10
He let those wolves gnash at him with their teeth for me. 12
Creatures of the night raised their heads high ; 9
The Lamb of God lay down to die. 8
"DEMON WOLF"
Claws grip the ground tight as I run 8
Toward the tower weighing a ton. 8
I swing no sword. No swift steed do I ride; 10
From no foe of hell will I hide. 8
Racing faster, I pass an arrow; 9
I sink my teeth in, tasting the marrow. 10
Through my waving fur coat winter winds blow, 10
Tearing past trees as my evil eyes glow. 10
Stopping on a hilltop, I stand, 8
Looking across the land. 6
I bare my teeth and give a growl; 8
Others answer my howl. 6
Alone again, the gray wolf cries, 8
Under the starlit sky. 6
Like a bird, the deer flies; 6
Then it falls down and dies. 6
Behold the beasts - swift and strong; 7
Gather to feast - unite in song. 8
Now watch as they wait paitently, 8
Pounce on their prey - and drag it away. 9
Together they drag down a kill; 8
They won't rest 'till they've had their fill. 8
Suddenly everything grows silent; 9
Nature can be violent. 6
In the dark shadows, with a silent stare; 10
These predators are on the prowl. 8
Lifting their heads into the air, 8
They let out a long howl. 6
When the other wolves reply, 7
Let the blood fall from the sky. 7
Raise your head and kiss the moon; 7
Now the night is coming soon. 7
