We danced slowly together
that song “Like a bridge
over troubled waters.”
Played into our hearts
and we held closer
Close like a breath of love.
Close like a heartbeat.
With our eyes
we promised each other.
With our hearts
we melded together
We talked about the future
in the back seat
of my parents car
and low and behold
we made a family and a dream
Now we have taken the shape
of watermelons
and we try to do it fast
before our favorite TV show comes on
The nineteen inch television set
that sits on the milk crate
in the living room
of our one bedroom apartment.
With three bawling children
who live in the closet
Sometimes I think about that night
and that song
How we danced close
when our figures were beautiful
I would like to crawl atop that bridge
and look at those waters
as I jump in.

Oh not sure if it was humourous, for I saw the despair in it as well. Reminded me of the Ode To Billie Joe, jumping off that bridge, the fall is a finale we can never take back. Love, C
