Indestructable

Passion's master spirit's slave
Nails exhume a shallow grave
Sorrow's poison joyous gain
Gifts rhymed words can ne'er explain

Tempered mettle cracking bone
Selfless hallowed cliffs of stone
Heavy heart drags wounded wings
Sword of grace cuts merchant strings

Twisted backbone muscles ache
Tears of blood as knuckles break
Demon dust casts putrid pall
Sober will has razed fear's wall

Treasures ruined comforts lost
Battle waged at tragic cost
Flesh is tortured savagely
Love's intact and soul soars free

Author notes

Our deepest fears cause us to twist ourseves into shapes we find comfortable. Eliminating the fears then becomes the even more massive task of giving up the perceived comforts.

Your poem was fantastic! Truly well metered and rhymed.
Certainly stands out as indicative of your versatility. It is very true about our deepest fears and how we manifest them into twisted shapes and realities.

Just before the comment can you provide some alt-text for the image I have a friend who reads all of our contests and she is blind and this comes up blank for her. You should be able to put the full test in as alternative.

A dark and bleak piece with perfect rhyme and meter, no arguments about placing this one, real poetry!

Great entry please keep them coming in the later rounds

    Jeff and Sue

Oh my! This is great! Really great! You took the dark genre to the next level. The meter is perfect in every way. This is a fantastic read. I do have a quam about that god awful dress the girl in the picture is wearing.

    Love,
    Amera♥

For me, this is more of a Wisdom-Kinda-Sorta write, but either way, you make the point as skillfully as a surgeon, it's the invisible that's invincible ...Best of luck in the contest. Peace, Rhonda
