Acrostic Amera

Alert and most adept, this Siren’s sly.
Small wonder she knows spells now most unseen,
Elemental the stylus of this queen,
Her regal words can make her suitors fly,
Or drag them to the gallows where they die!
The pomegranate of her mouth cuisine
Sought always by her lovers turning green
To then envy other lovers--die with a sigh!

Now beyond all of this fine poetry,
Do now weave for me a spell, a pretty spell
As rare as rarest air on some far sea,
Bring soft susurruses, and chime one bell.
I do envy you sweet poet, and for this
I die for two “noons”, one “moon” and a kiss!

Author notes

Acrostic-- : a composition usually in verse in which sets of letters (as the initial or final letters of the lines) taken in order form a word or phrase or a regular sequence of letters of the alphabet. (Note: this can be ANY set of letters. It is a code for which you need the key!)

  • Just want to reiterate how much Amera enjoyed this. I am laughing as she hasn't found the acrostic yet. It is a very interesting sonnet and quite a tribute. Three bunnies for you.

    Wonderful Acrostic

Good Morning Michael, This was a quite different acrostic then I am use to writing. The master at work again. So nice of you to honor a fellow poet with your wonderful words. You take care.

  • Superb sonnet, beautifully done acrostic, and the lady herself must be in raptures!
I am terrible at acrostics to see a hidden one done this well without seeming to compromise the poetry is a revelation.
I now look forward to Amera writing one for you!

I am so happy and honored, you have no idea. First of all the poem is wonderful, I love it! But the fact that you wrote it for me leaves me speechless. You and an icon around here, you are of the best sonnet writers on the site and to think that you dedicated one to me is very humbling. I can’t thank you enough.

    Love,
    Amera♥
PS: no I can’t figure out the code but don’t tell me, let me work on it.

  • leave it to you to take an overused and misunderstood form and make it something wonderful! the enjambment is perfect, the diction fabulous, and the poem as a whole is lovely.
