beneath shadow of rose petal
and scent of morning sun,
as wafts luck with the breeze
on the underside of beauty,
crimson wings splattered
with night’s essence,
armored against the world’s woe
as delicate legs glide
across the leaf’s bottom,
inching closer to edge of eternity
a finger stretches forth
with fortune a breath away,
as the ladybug walks onto destiny
of a child’s dream,
placed in a glass jar
with one other lost soul,
they flutter in vain until nightfall
when mother releases them back
to the garden’s kismet
and scent of morning sun,
as wafts luck with the breeze
on the underside of beauty,
crimson wings splattered
with night’s essence,
armored against the world’s woe
as delicate legs glide
across the leaf’s bottom,
inching closer to edge of eternity
a finger stretches forth
with fortune a breath away,
as the ladybug walks onto destiny
of a child’s dream,
placed in a glass jar
with one other lost soul,
they flutter in vain until nightfall
when mother releases them back
to the garden’s kismet

I just had one of these land on me the other day.
And it brought back memories of younger years when I would look all over for them.
A wonderful poem and I'm truly glad I stopped on by.

I really like the way you made an insect seem so beautiful. The imagery was lovely in this write. I enjoyed the ending as I love all of God's creatures. Good luck in the contest.

My grand-niece and I are enraptured by lady bugs, so this brought a smile to my face

There's a Romanian folk lore tradition of counting the spots on a ladybug's wings to see how many years a little lady has left to wait for her true love. Yes, there's always luck on the breeze in any German garden when a lady bug is found and thank goodness, Mom has sense to release her by nightfall. This is an evocative piece about these charming and oh-so-well-loved little garden helpers with their cheery spotted wings. I love the delicate way you describe their movement and their place in folk lore of warding off woe. Thanks, azure! Well done on this pairing of pins and poem.

This is really charming!
I did have to look up "kismet", which interupted the flow ,until I found the meaning and then I said;
"oh, this is good!"

-
Made me feel like a kid again, catching insects in a jar. This though from the lady bug's perspective put a whole new light. I loved this.

A great poem, inspired by a pair of little beauties. I'll see their wings /splattered with night's essence/ now, thank you for that image! I love the release /back to the garden's kismet/, too.

I like this - beneath the underside of beauty wafts luck, crimson wings spattered with night's essence (now I'll never look at ladybugs the same way), armored against the world's woe, edge of eternity as a leaf, walking onto destiny's finger and child's dream. Oh, thank goodness for the Mother!
Very Nice - I still let them walk on me... and I have one as a tattoo!
